How We Clean Driveways & Patios

It’s coming to that time of year when the sun is out (Hopefully!) and we will be thinking of inviting friends and family around for BBQs and sitting in the sun. To get the garden ready you may want to consider driveway & patio cleaning to ensure your garden looks its best for your guests. Cleaning block paved driveways and patios are important for maintaining their appearance, longevity, and safety. Here’s why it’s important and how we clean them effectively:

Importance of Driveway & Patio Cleaning

  1. Appearance: Regular cleaning helps to maintain the aesthetic appeal of your driveway or patio by removing dirt, stains, moss, algae, and weeds.
  2. Safety: Moss, algae, and weeds can make surfaces slippery, posing a safety hazard. Cleaning removes these hazards, reducing the risk of slips and falls.
  3. Prevents Damage: Dirt and debris can accumulate in the joints between blocks, leading to weed growth and potential damage to the paving. Cleaning prevents this buildup, preserving the integrity of the pavement.

How We Clean Driveways & Patios

  • Pre-Treatment – The area will be treated with a weedkiller 7 to 10 days before cleaning, this will ensure weeds are killed at the roots and deter further weed growth.
  • Cleaning Process – We start by systematically cleaning the block paving and patio surface with the pressure washer, working from one end to the other. We can adjust the pressure settings based on the type of paving material and the severity of the dirt and stains. We will use rotary surface cleaners for larger areas to ensure even cleaning and prevent streaking or uneven results. Stubborn stains, oil spills, algae or severe moss growth may require additional attention. We can use specialized cleaning agents or techniques to remove these stains without damaging the paving.
  • Joint Re Sanding – After cleaning block paving, the sand between the joints will be washed away during the cleaning process, once dry we will top up the joints by brushing in fresh kiln-dried sand to stabilize the blocks and prevent weed growth. We will brush in a wet compound for larger patio joints.
  • Wash Down & Tidy – Driveway & Patio Cleaning removes a lot of dirt, therefore as part of the process we wash and dry down any UPVC etc ready for you to inspect.
